Several hundred taxis protested in Paris on Monday. They are protesting against the new rules for medical transport and the competition from VTCs. Clashes broke out with law enforcement in the afternoon.
In the Paris region, several hundred taxis mobilized on the A6, A13, and National 12 on Monday morning. The protesters made their way to the Ministry of Transport and then to the center of the capital.
They are opposed to a new pricing scheme imposed by the Health Insurance on medical transport for contracted drivers. It must be approved by the government and come into effect on October 1, according to the Health Insurance. They also denounce the competition from VTCs.
Around 4 pm, tensions escalated between taxi drivers and the CRS: several tear gas grenades were fired. The protesters got out of their vehicles. Barriers were thrown on the road and trash cans were set on fire.
At 5 pm, the protesters were near Boulevard Raspail, close to the Montparnasse train station, as reported by a journalist from franceinfo on site. Despite police blockades, the taxis want to reach Matignon.
