With the high temperatures and wind during the weekend of August 15th, several fires broke out in the former Midi-Pyrénées region. An update on the situation, department by department.
Since Sunday, August 17th, Occitanie has been particularly affected by multiple fires. Between rekindling of already active fires and new outbreaks, firefighters and aerial resources are mobilized in large numbers to contain the flames throughout the region.
Le Tarn
Le Tarn is the department most affected by the fires in recent days. On Sunday, August 14th, due to gusts of wind, rekindling was observed in Labacarède, where a fire had already ravaged over 12 hectares last Tuesday. Firefighters remain mobilized on Monday to prevent any risk of rekindling.
The largest fire of the weekend broke out in Montredon. It covered 64 hectares of vegetation before being contained on the night of August 17th to 18th, thanks to the mobilization of 100 firefighters from Tarn, 13 civil security soldiers, and significant aerial resources.
In Lacaze, another fire started on Friday. It burned more than five hectares before being contained and remains under surveillance. August 18th is under severe vigilance in the southeast of Tarn, and moderate in the rest of the department.
L’Aveyron
In Aveyron, two fires broke out on Sunday, just five minutes apart, around 5:30 pm. In Saint-Rome-de-Tarn, five hectares of vegetation went up in smoke, mobilizing around fifty firefighters. In Combret, another fire burned vegetation and required the involvement of 61 firefighters. Local farmers plowed around the fire to prevent further spread;
On Monday, the two fires were contained with the support of aerial resources, including Milan and Canadair aircraft.

Le Gers
In Gers, a fire broke out on Sunday afternoon in the municipality of Vic-Fezensac. Fueled by drought and high temperatures, the flames spread over more than three hectares before being brought under control by the rapid intervention of 17 firefighters on site.
Shortly after, in Sainte-Dode, a second fire broke out in a 20-hectare field, where 2,000 square meters of scrubland went up in smoke. Fifteen firefighters were needed to contain the fire.
Wednesday, August 13, a fire broke out in a pine forest in Montesquiou.

L’Ariège
In Ariège, a vegetation fire broke out on Thursday evening in Perles-et-Castelet. It burned over three hectares before being contained, then rekindled on Sunday. Firefighters had to intervene again throughout the day.
The fire was announced as contained on Monday morning, 8 a.m.
Le Tarn-et-Garonne
In Tarn-et-Garonne, a barn caught fire on the night of Sunday to Monday, in the town of Caylus. The fire, which started around 8 p.m., destroyed a significant stock of hay. No injuries were reported, but the intervention required firefighters to remain mobilized throughout the night and into Monday morning.

Un peu plus tard, à Sainte-Dode, un second départ de feu a touché un champ de 20 hectares, où 2.000 m² de friches sont partis en fumée. Quinze soldats du feu ont été nécessaires pour contenir l’incendie.
Mercredi 13 août, un feu s’est déclaré dans une pinède à Montesquiou.
**L’Ariège**
En Ariège, un feu de végétation s’est déclaré jeudi soir à Perles-et-Castelet. Il a brûlé plus de trois hectares avant d’être maîtrisé, puis s’est réactivé ce dimanche. Les pompiers ont dû intervenir à nouveau tout au long de la journée.
Le sinistre est annoncé maîtrisé lundi matin, à 8 heures.
**Le Tarn-et-Garonne**
Dans le Tarn-et-Garonne, c’est une grange qui a pris feu dans la nuit de dimanche à lundi, sur la commune de Caylus. Le sinistre, déclenché aux alentours de 20 heures, a détruit un important stock de paille. Aucun blessé n’est à déplorer, mais l’intervention a nécessité la mobilisation des pompiers toute la nuit et se poursuivait encore lundi matin.
Avec les fortes chaleurs et le vent du week-end du 15 août, plusieurs incendies ont éclaté dans l’ancienne région Midi-Pyrénées. Situation dans les départements :
– Occitanie : Depuis le dimanche 17 août, la région est touchée par de multiples feux, nécessitant une mobilisation importante des pompiers et moyens aériens.
– Le Tarn : Le département le plus touché, avec des reprises de sinistres à Labacarède et un feu important à Montredon, maîtrisé après avoir parcouru 64 hectares. Un autre sinistre à Lacaze reste sous surveillance.
– L’Aveyron : Deux incendies se sont déclarés dimanche à Saint-Rome-de-Tarn et Combret, mobilisant respectivement une cinquantaine et 61 pompiers.
