D’après une source proche du dossier An investigation has been opened by the specialized interregional jurisdiction of Paris for «organized escape» and association of criminals for the preparation of crimes and offenses. The accomplices of «Ganito» arrived at the prison with a «police armband, like the BAC» (Brigade anti-criminalité), as described by Fabrice Sereault-Gobet, an employee at the Villepinte remand center and local secretary of FO-Justice in Seine-Saint-Denis. They then presented a fake warrant for the custody of Ilyas Kherbouch. The document was «stamped paper, like one would find in any judgment, with all the civil elements of the detainee,» according to Yoan Karar. «There was the official stamp of the Melun court» (Seine-et-Marne), so that «Ganito» could be taken to the police station in the city. «Everything was very well done,» he insists. An extraction of the young detainee was planned the day before.
During a control on a parking lot in Paris the next day, BAC police officers spotted a masked man holding a plastic bag, joining a second man. The agents found in this bag police armbands, as well as fake police cards and the fake extraction order used during the escape, detailed a source close to the investigation to France Télévisions. Two suspects, including a minor, were arrested. They were indicted on March 11 for «counterfeiting and use of counterfeiting in an administrative document, counterfeiting and use of counterfeiting in a public writing, active corruption of a person holding public authority, active corruption of a person charged with a public service mission, participation in a criminal association for the preparation of an offense punishable by 10 years’ imprisonment and organized escape,» as specified by the Paris prosecutor.
«Ganito» was incarcerated at the Villepinte remand center to serve four sentences and was in pre-trial detention as a suspect in two other cases. The young man was specifically sentenced in 2024 to seven years in prison for his involvement in the kidnapping and burglary of the Italian chef of the George V in Paris, Simone Zanoni. The fugitive was also indicted in November 2025 in the home-jacking case of Gianluigi Donnarumma, the former PSG goalkeeper. The release of this repeat offender, prior to any new decision, was scheduled for 2035.
On March 12, Ilyas Kherbouch was sentenced on appeal to six years in prison, as in the first instance, for complicity in an attempted theft aggravated by three circumstances, for a home-jacking in Paris on February 7, 2024. «He has a terrible record, and yet, we had taken time with him, as I considered it important. But despite this, he decided to escape,» said the president of the Paris Court of Appeal, issuing a warrant for his arrest.
