A 24-year-old former farm worker is being tried starting on Monday, March 16, by the Assize Court of Corrèze for the rape followed by the murder of Justine Vayrac, 20 years old, after a night out at a nightclub in Brive-la-Gaillarde in 2022. The disappearance of the young woman, who was studying to become a nursing assistant and was raising a two-year-old son in Tauriac, in the neighboring Lot department, was reported on a Sunday in October.

The day before, she had started the evening with friends at one of their homes in Brive before going to a nightclub. Limoges police investigators, who were in charge of the case, traced the victim’s last moments in the nightclub. According to several witnesses, Justine Vayrac appeared heavily intoxicated. Feeling unwell, she left the establishment with a friend, Theo, and was later joined by Lucas Larivée, whom she had known for a few weeks and had exchanged messages with during the evening.

Justine Vayrac and Lucas Larivée left the nightclub together, shortly before four in the morning, to go to Beynat, 30 km from Brive, to the young man’s place. It is in his room that he is accused of raping and hitting her before strangling her. Quickly questioned by the police, the young man, who was already known to the justice system for an arson case, initially gave several false versions before admitting to the murder. However, he denies the rape accusations and disputes the intent to kill, only admitting to delivering a «punch» to the young woman, which allegedly caused her death.

The victim’s body, with a blue string around her neck, was found buried near Lucas Larivée’s home four days after her disappearance. The autopsy revealed injuries to the face, a broken nose, and two hematomas in the uterine cervix area, consistent with rape. According to the forensic analysis, the victim died from strangulation. Twelve people have joined as civil parties for the trial, which is expected to last until Friday. Several hundred people participated in a white march to pay tribute to Justine Vayrac, two days after her funeral.

Cependant, il nie avoir commis le viol. Cependant, il nie l’avoir violée.
