The Tour de France peloton arrives in Paris this Sunday, July 27. The passage through Montmartre is a first in its history. A final stage with a route identical to the one of the cycling event at the Paris 2024 Olympics. An impressive course, but some cyclists find it difficult.
Ultimate and spectacular stage for the Tour de France 2025, this Sunday, July 27. The start will be given at 4:25 pm in Mantes-la-Ville (Yvelines), before a first passage through Montmartre around 6:30 pm. The riders will go through Rue Lepic, pass in front of the Moulin Rouge and the Sacré-Cœur, and enjoy the French Cancan.
On the agenda: three ascents of over a kilometer, with a 5.9% gradient. A year after the excitement of the Olympics, Tour de France director Christian Prudhomme did everything to replicate the event.
The race is not expected to change the general classification: Tadej Pogacar, with a lead of over four minutes, can confidently move towards a fourth triumph in the Tour. These ascents, however, shuffle the deck for the stage victory.
As soon as the route was announced, there was a general outcry among the sprinters of the peloton faced with the risk of being deprived of the most prestigious finale of the year for them.
The general classification riders are also up in arms. Before his withdrawal, Remco Evenepoel had denounced «unnecessary stress.» Only Pogacar remained philosophical, not seeing «too much of a difference for him personally.»
The peloton’s arrival on the Champs-Élysées is scheduled around 7:30 pm.

Cette année, l’épreuve ne devrait pas affecter le classement général, car Tadej Pogacar, qui bénéficie d’une avance de plus de quatre minutes, semble se diriger sereinement vers une quatrième victoire dans le Tour. Cependant, ces ascensions changent la donne pour la victoire d’étape. Les sprinteurs, à l’exception peut-être de Kaden Groves et de Wout Van Aert, auront du mal à rester au contact de la tête de course pour se disputer la victoire, comme c’est habituellement le cas sur les Champs-Élysées.
Dès la publication du parcours, de nombreux coureurs ont exprimé leur mécontentement face au risque d’être privés de l’arrivée la plus prestigieuse de l’année. Marcel Kittel, ancien sprinteur allemand, a partagé son désarroi en tant que sprinteur. Les coureurs du classement général sont également mécontents. Avant son abandon, Remco Evenepoel avait qualifié la situation de «stress inutile». Jonas Vingegaard a également exprimé ses inquiétudes concernant la montée étroite à Montmartre.
Seul Pogacar adopte une attitude philosophique, ne voyant pas trop de différence pour lui personnellement. Malgré le stress engendré, l’architecte du parcours, Thierry Gouvenou, a relativisé en soulignant que la rue Lepic n’est pas plus étroite qu’un secteur pavé de Paris-Roubaix.
