The RER B is improving. Punctuality has reached 89.2%, almost reaching the level of 2015. Everything is not perfect, but SNCF and RATP have embarked on a joint effort to improve the service provided to passengers. Let us explain.
In the joint command center, 30 agents from RATP and SNCF work together to secure the line and get the trains back in operation as quickly as possible. A passenger has just descended onto the track. The power supply is cut off, and the traffic stops immediately. In the command center, the teams react in seconds: their goal is to ensure safety while restoring traffic as quickly as possible.
The establishment of this center with both companies has improved the punctuality of the RER. Particularly, one area is of special interest: the Châtelet tunnel, a narrow passage where a train passes every 110 seconds. It is one of the most critical points on the line. On the screens, a new traffic management system helps better regulate the trains.
In 2025, we are doing better: we achieve 89% punctuality, notably thanks to the management of the tunnel between Châtelet and Gare du Nord.

SNCF and RATP are also working on the other two points. To assist, flow regulators have been deployed in the stations to facilitate the boarding and disembarking of passengers. Once the incident is over, the community manager informs users via social media. Providing more information at the right time.
The collaboration between RATP and SNCF has strengthened on maintenance. The north and south workshops are now managed by RATP. In Massy, a new maintenance workshop – still very recent – speeds up the 400 bogie changes carried out each year.
The RER B is used by one million passengers every day. It is the second busiest line in Europe. Unfortunately, the arrival of the new MI20 trains, postponed to 2028, should also improve the punctuality of the trains and thus the service to passengers.
