In the 20th arrondissement of Paris, tenants living in a residence managed by Paris Habitat have been without heating and hot water since early December. A difficult situation to manage during the winter period.
«The temperatures in my home can range from 15 to 18 degrees. In the evening, it is very cold and in the morning there are drafts passing through the hallway.» Wahiba Hallil Bellah is feeling the impact. She lives in a residence in the 20th arrondissement where 2 out of 3 boilers are out of order.
As a result, there has been no heating or hot water since early December for 295 tenants. «The whole family is cold,» notes Wahiba, who is also an opposition SE elected official in the district’s town hall. Since December 3, she has been using a very energy-intensive electric heater placed in her hallway. «We leave the doors open and the heat spreads. It heats well but consumes a lot of electricity.»
The breakdown of the two boilers is incomprehensible to the social landlord Paris Habitat. The three were replaced in 2022 for more than 500,000 euros. For the tenants, the ordeal should end early next week. «The service provider will intervene from Monday to replace at least one boiler,» notes Christophe Dujardin, who heads the East territorial direction of Paris Habitat.
«We hope that both can be repaired but we are awaiting confirmation,» he continues. In the meantime, convector heaters are available to tenants. Paris Habitat promises to cover the extra electricity consumption from the additional heaters.
