Les principales salles de cinéma d’Afrique du Sud ont retiré un documentaire sur la Première dame des États-Unis, Melania Trump, juste avant sa sortie, le distributeur invoquant «le climat actuel», ont rapporté des médias locaux.
Le média News24 avait indiqué mercredi 28 janvier que le distributeur sud-africain Filmfinity avait brusquement retiré le film de la programmation.
Jeudi, veille de sa sortie internationale le 30 janvier, le documentaire n’était pas à l’affiche sur les sites des cinémas Nu Metro et Ster Kinekor, les deux principaux réseaux de salles du pays.
«Compte tenu du climat actuel, le film ne sortira plus en salles sur le territoire», a déclaré à News24 Thobashan Govindarajulu, responsable marketing du distributeur.
Il n’a pas précisé à quel «climat» il faisait référence et l’AFP n’a pas pu joindre dans l’immédiat un représentant de l’entreprise pour obtenir des précisions.

News24 reported on Wednesday, January 28th that South African distributor Filmfinity abruptly removed the film from its schedule.
On Thursday, the day before its international release on January 30th, the documentary was not listed on the websites of the Nu Metro and Ster Kinekor cinemas, the country’s two main cinema networks.
«Given the current climate, the film will no longer be released in theaters in the country,» said Thobashan Govindarajulu, the distributor’s marketing manager, to News24.
He did not specify what «climate» he was referring to, and AFP was unable to immediately reach a company representative for further clarification.
