A hundred students from AgroParisTech have been blocking a part of the engineering school campus in Palaiseau, Essonne since Tuesday morning to protest against the government’s agricultural policy.
The mobilized students, with around fifty spending the night from Tuesday to Wednesday on the site, denounce a «co-management» between the government and the FNSEA, the main agricultural union, in the co-construction of public policies.
«The mobilization is part of a national agricultural mobilization against the government’s health policy on the DNC (nodular dermatosis of cattle, ed.) and the Mercosur agreement», explains Juliette, 22, to AFP, who preferred not to give her name. She is a member of the «Agro en lutte» collective, which initiated the mobilization.
«The FNSEA was almost absent from these mobilizations, and even supported government policies», denounces the collective in a post published on Instagram on Wednesday.
The mobilized students also point out the «links between the school’s management and the agri-industry.» They particularly target the presence on the school’s board of directors of the former president of FNSEA, Christiane Lambert (2017-2023).
They demand a «change in the composition of the school’s board of directors», «by including representatives of structures advocating a strong agroecology project, breaking with the dominant agri-industrial model.»
Furthermore, they call for a radical transformation of the curriculum, by involving students in the reform process, «so that education is no longer serving problematic companies.»
When contacted by AFP, the general direction of AgroParisTech indicated that some of the teachings had been moved online.
«The composition of the board of directors does not depend on the general direction of AgroParisTech but on the Ministry of Agriculture», commented the direction, adding that a «curriculum overhaul has been ongoing since 2023» and that students had been «involved in work within this framework.»

La mobilisation, initiée par le collectif «Agro en lutte», est soutenue par Juliette, membre du collectif, qui dénonce le manque d’implication de la FNSEA dans les mobilisations et son soutien aux politiques gouvernementales.
Les étudiants mobilisés critiquent également les liens entre la direction de l’école et l’agro-industrie, en pointant du doigt la présence de l’ex-présidente de la FNSEA, Christiane Lambert, au conseil d’administration de l’école. Ils réclament un changement de la composition du conseil d’administration en faveur d’une représentation de structures promouvant un projet d’agroécologie plus en phase avec leurs valeurs.
En plus de cela, les étudiants demandent une réforme profonde des cursus, en incluant les étudiants dans le processus de réforme pour que la formation ne serve plus les intérêts des entreprises problématiques. La direction générale d’AgroParisTech a souligné que certains enseignements ont été passés en distanciel et a précisé que la composition du conseil d’administration relève du ministère de l’Agriculture.
Elle a également mentionné qu’une refonte du cursus est en cours depuis 2023 et que les étudiants ont été impliqués dans ce processus. La mobilisation des étudiants s’inscrit dans un contexte national de contestation de la politique sanitaire du gouvernement, notamment concernant la dermatose nodulaire des bovins et l’accord de Mercosur.
