The few notes that travelers hear before each announcement must be replaced by a new jingle, gradually deployed throughout the network operated by RATP and the rest of the region’s transportation services. How was this composition conceived?
He works in his «lair» in the 6th arrondissement of the capital: «Chez Jean», a futuristic-looking sound production studio. Jean Dindinaud, a sound producer, worked with four other composers to imagine the new «auditory identity» of the Parisian transportation system.
An artist, under the pseudonym of «Professor Tireless», this Parisian has also created numerous jingles as part of his «commercial, advertising» activities, for example for Carglass, Peugeot, PMU, or the show «Affaires sensibles» on France Inter. Tasked by the organizing authority Île-de-France Mobilités (IDFM) to design a «short format» with a three-second jingle, as well as a long version approaching a minute in duration.

These few notes required «two or three months» of work, Jean Dindinaud recounts. A result composed with synthesizers, but also acoustic sounds, «to avoid being dated,» with «a mix of marimba, glockenspiel, piano, and strings.» The producer cites French composers from the 19th century like Claude Debussy or Maurice Ravel as inspirations, as well as the French touch for the electronic dimension.
A creation under constraints, as the jingle had to be broadcast in noisy train stations without assaulting the travelers’ eardrums.
A jury consisting of members of RATP and SNCF Voyageurs voted «blindly» among the various proposals.
This new «identity» comes in the context of opening up to competition and the increasing number of operators on the transport network, beyond RATP, explained IDFM.
Blue metros in the colors of the regional authority, information panels… IDFM highlights the project of «unifying and harmonizing the network at a regional level» with a «sonic continuity«, «without any borders» to avoid «a loss of reference points» during transfers. The new sound signature will be gradually deployed: it will be heard everywhere in the Paris metro by July 1, and across all transport systems in the Île-de-France region by the end of 2026.

He works in his «lair» in the 6th arrondissement of the capital: «Chez Jean», a sound production studio with a futuristic decor.
