With a scheduled start in March 2027, the CDG Express trains, which will connect Roissy airport and Gare de l’Est in Paris, will pass through Mitry-Mory every fifteen minutes, from 6 am to midnight. «A train traveling at 140 km/h makes a lot of noise. The CDG Express will use part of the RER B tracks, with a stopless passage on the platforms, and will make a 90-degree turn,» explains the town hall to France 3 Paris Île-de-France.

«In our town, the train will be in a phase of heavy braking and acceleration, very close to the residences,» which could cause significant noise disturbances, it fears. The municipality is therefore asking for reinforced «sound protections» for residents, including «acoustic protections on all houses» near the tracks, by isolating the facades of nearly 80 homes.

«But following initial studies, SNCF estimated that 22 houses could be affected, and only seven of them met the eligibility criteria,» laments the town hall. And while SNCF has planned a 416-meter noise barrier, the municipality believes that «a much longer wall, 2 km, would actually be needed to maximize protection for residents«.

Especially as «residents are already experiencing significant daily disturbances for years» due to the railway project works, points out the municipality. «There is traffic and noise from trucks on roads that are not suitable. But there are also disruptions in the RER B service, from 10:30 pm on weekdays, and all weekends. It’s impossible to go to Paris, it prevents residents from leaving their homes. And the morning delays. Line K is also disrupted,» denounces the town.

The town hall says it is «fighting to obtain what is fair for residents» with the association defending residents against the CDG Express of Mitry-Mory and Villeparisis. On Facebook, the group portrays the railway project as «an aberration at the expense of our daily transportation«.

On the other hand, the Seine-et-Marne prefecture states that «70 homes located in the town of Mitry-Mory are eligible» for sound protection measures. «Facade protection includes, among other things, replacing windows to improve insulation,» specifies the institution, which indicates that «acoustic audits have been carried out (…) to determine the exact number of homes concerned«.

All while following «regulatory thresholds» for exposure to railway noise, day and night. Last October, the departmental prefecture and the Île-de-France regional prefecture, however, «asked SNCF Réseau to conduct additional studies in order, if necessary, to adjust the number of homes concerned,» adds the institution. The Seine-et-Marne prefecture also confirms that a 416-meter noise barrier is currently under construction. A structure that should be ready «by summer 2026«.

Regarding other aspects, the institution acknowledges that «noise disturbances are generated by works, whether carried out at night or during the day«. «It is necessary to reconcile the need to ensure continuity of service during the day – especially for the millions of passengers using the RER B and line K – with the requirements related to carrying out the works. The current pace will, barring exceptional circumstances, allow the service schedule to be respected,» argues the prefecture.

The institution, which assures that «the State is closely monitoring this issue«, presents the CDG Express as «a structuring project on a scale of the entire Île-de-France region«. The Mitry-Mory town hall, however, requests to include the CDG Express fare in the Navigo pass, as well as a stop at Mitry-le-Neuf «so that the connection benefits workers, daily commuters, and not just tourists and affluent individuals, with a ticket priced at 25 euros«.
