However, this double monitoring could end as early as next January.

A measure in the 2025 Social Security Financing Law plans to eliminate reimbursement for sessions with private speech therapists for children followed in CMPs. The National Federation of Speech Therapists explains that reimbursements for private sessions are still possible in medico-social institutions governed by the Social Action and Families Code. However, CMPs are not included as they fall under the Public Health Code. Families whose children are followed in CMPs will no longer be reimbursed.

Initially, this elimination was set to take effect in October 2025 but has been postponed to December 31st of this year.

«Thanks to national mobilization, this provision has been postponed until December 31, 2025,» wrote the National Federation of Speech Therapists last week. «This is only a temporary reprieve. It is essential that it does not reappear in the 2026 version of the law,» explains Louis’s mother.

In practical terms, to continue monitoring children also supported by CMPs, private speech therapists must sign an agreement with the medico-psychological centers. If speech therapy is part of the services provided by the CMP, the center must finance it. If not, the Health Insurance can reimburse, but only if an agreement has been signed with the CMP.

On this issue, the National Federation of Speech Therapists states on its website: «An agreement is now essential. However, we know how reluctant CMPs are to establish these agreements.»

According to Laura, who is also part of the parent group «La Voix de Nos Enfants,» this non-reimbursement could mean «an immediate disruption in speech therapy for thousands of children, as in most CMPs, there are no speech therapists at all.» She continues by explaining that «like many other families, we know that CMP and private speech therapy are complementary and not interchangeable. One does not go without the other. With the speech therapist, Louis works on communication and language. He barely knew 20 words before starting sessions. Now, he can say complete sentences. Thanks to the CMP, he receives psychological support and works on everything related to socialization and psychomotricity through a program called Partial Therapeutic Daycare Center (CATTP).»

She goes on to say that «Louis has a hard time adapting to changes: disrupting these balances or upsetting his references would be very difficult and could cause him to regress.» References are also what Laure’s two children, a Parisian mother, need. Her two boys, aged 7 and 12, have dysphasia. «One of them does not understand his native language while the other neither understands nor speaks it,» she explains. She sees these different follow-ups as «an important support for parents. Both of them greatly need a speech therapist, and the private and CMP sessions reassure them. They need them, and as parents, these follow-ups make us feel supported,» she notes.

With this new situation, Laura fears having to choose between the two. «We don’t want to stop the private sessions because they are very beneficial for him,» she tells us. «It could abruptly halt his progress,» says Audrey Pavard, the speech therapist who follows Louis.

In an online petition on the Change.org website signed more than 12,000 times in a month, parents and speech therapists call for «a recognition of the fundamental role of speech therapists in the care pathway.»

Finally, the National Federation of Speech Therapists indicates that «constructive discussions» are ongoing. My son needs the support of parents in the face of the risk of data-region data-type data-article-share-alt-button-social data-article-share-alt-button-share=»whatsapp»>

«My 3 and a half year old son has autism spectrum disorder, ASD. He receives speech therapy twice a week in private practice. He is also welcomed during the week at a medico-psycho-educational center in Saint-Maur des Fossés since April 2024 for psychological and medical consultations». Laura’s weeks are well structured. This mother of two boys accompanies her son Louis to his medical appointments every week.

A dual follow-up that allows her son to progress. «When we found out he had ASD, it was a thunderbolt for us, but the speech therapy sessions allowed him to gradually enter into language while at the CMP he learns to socialize and work on his motor functions,» analyzes the human resources worker. However, this dual follow-up could end as early as next January.

A measure in the Social Security financing law for 2025 plans to eliminate reimbursement for private speech therapy sessions for children followed in CMP.

The National Federation of Speech Therapists explains that reimbursements for sessions in private practice are still possible in medico-social establishments under the Social Action and Families Code. However, CMPs are not concerned as they fall under the Public Health Code. Families whose children are followed in CMPs will no longer be reimbursed.

This removal was initially supposed to take effect as of October 2025. It has been postponed to December 31st.

«Thanks to national mobilization, this provision has been postponed to December 31, 2025,» wrote the National Federation of Speech Therapists at the end of last week. «This is only a temporary relief.»
