During the night from Saturday, January 17 to Sunday, January 18, a floor of a Paris building collapsed during a party. At least fifty to sixty guests were present in this apartment: 14 people were injured, one seriously. Let’s take a look.
The collapse occurred in the 11th arrondissement of Paris, on Rue Amelot. The apartment is located on the 5th floor of the building. Firefighters were alerted shortly after midnight when the floor of the living room collapsed onto the floor below. At least 145 firefighters and 45 vehicles were mobilized, along with numerous ambulances.
«A party had taken place in an apartment, then there was a chain collapse on the entire floor. There were about 60 people. We saw that a floor had been weakened due to an infiltration from a balcony. It led to the degradation of the floor. The living room collapsed over at least 30m2. Small wooden beams supporting the floor gave way,» details Antoine Cardon to France Télévisions.
According to this safety architect from the Paris police prefecture deployed at the scene, several causes can explain what happened: «Many factors can lead to a disaster, including weight, the condition of the floor, fragility, but also the unfortunate factor at an inopportune moment. There may be rain, fragility, and a crowd at a very specific place in the room, the resonance of the floor, and then the collapse.»
Firefighters were called in the night from Saturday, January 17 to Sunday, January 18, for this collapse of an apartment in Paris.

According to the initial findings of the Paris firefighters, the collapse is «structural» and is not related to a gas leak. Investigations are ongoing. The Paris prosecutor’s office confirms the opening of an investigation into the causes of the injuries on this Sunday, January 18.
