«She was shot twice in the head at close range,» said Jean-Baptiste Bladier, prosecutor of Meaux.

A septuagenarian was shot and killed on Friday at her home in Changis-sur-Marne (Seine-et-Marne). Her octogenarian husband, suspected of the crime, was found seriously injured.

The victim was 79 years old and her partner was 86. The couple had been married for 60 years.

«She had decided to leave him and was supposed to move to another place in March,» added the prosecutor of Meaux.

The 86-year-old man allegedly shot his wife before turning the gun on himself, as he reportedly confessed to the firefighters who responded to the couple’s home about ten kilometers from Meaux, as reported by Le Parisien.

Monday morning, the octogenarian suspected of femicide, who has «no criminal record,» was still hospitalized, added Jean-Baptiste Bladier.

In 2023, 96 women were victims of domestic femicide in France, a 19% decrease from 2022, according to a report from the Ministry of the Interior published last November.
