30 degrees expected around 8 p.m. this Sunday evening, a thermometer that reaches 34 degrees on Monday around 2 p.m. And an estimated temperature of 39 degrees on Tuesday afternoon, «these temperatures are well above the values normally observed,» according to Meteo France which places Paris and the departments of the inner suburbs on orange heatwave meteorological alert from this Sunday, June 29.

The temperatures will rise significantly and the City of Paris has, in turn, activated a reinforced vigilance level. The Reflex system is activated, a telephone platform is responsible for calling people registered in this system. This concerns elderly people and people with disabilities.

To try to cool off and go green, the City of Paris announces that around twenty parks and gardens will be open until midnight in the capital.

The city of Melun in Seine-et-Marne has decided to close its schools and leisure facilities on July 1st and 2nd, 2025. «The schools and leisure facilities will therefore not welcome any children on those days. Families are invited to make arrangements now. This measure aims to guarantee the safety and well-being of children in the face of the extreme temperatures announced,» the City said on its website.

The Ministry of Education recalled Sunday in an instruction to the rectors the measures to take in the face of the very high temperatures expected. «We must be very vigilant when we have temperatures like those announced«, said the Minister of Education, Elisabeth Borne, on France 3. The ministry reissued Sunday to the rectors its instruction on the measures to be taken in the event of very high temperatures. But the government rules out advancing the start of the summer school holidays, scheduled for the end of the week, she said.

«We must be pragmatic, make decisions on a case-by-case basis in each territory,» said Ms. Borne. «When we have schools that are naturally well insulated, they can welcome students,» she added.

In this context of this orange heatwave vigilance, the prefecture of Île-de-France asks the state services to deploy actions towards the most vulnerable populations in the Parisian territory.

Among these measures in particular: «awareness of all healthcare facilities» and especially those accommodating elderly people, «preventive information to organizers of collective childcare and organizers of sports events» but also «awareness of associative outreach services and reinforcement of day centers.»

Furthermore, it is recommended to drink water regularly without waiting to be thirsty, to cool the body (face and forearms) several times a day, to eat enough, to avoid alcohol, and to limit exposure to heat.

The Ministry of Labor, Health, Solidarities, and Families has activated the Green Number Canicule info service on 0800 06 66 66. This number can be reached from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. The call is free from metropolitan France.
