On October 16, a video posted on social media shows a police car seemingly intentionally hitting a 36-year-old motorcyclist. Still in shock, the young man speaks of a «misunderstanding» during an overtaking maneuver.
For the past 10 days, Hugo has been living with a «constant noise» in his head and has trouble sleeping at night. The 36-year-old man speaks of «severe mental fatigue» caused by repeatedly watching the video, which made him realize he was «very close to dying or ending up disabled.»
The footage shared on social media on October 16 shows an incident that occurred on the A4 highway two days earlier. It depicts a police vehicle – with its sirens on – speeding on the left lane. Despite the lane being clear, the car swerves to the right and collides with a motorcycle traveling in the middle lane. The two-wheeler is destabilized but doesn’t fall, and the police officers drive off quickly.

A complaint for «violence by a person in authority with a weapon intended for public use» has been filed by Hugo. His lawyer, Ariel Alimi, speaks of «a case of road machismo compounded by police machismo.»
An «alarming case that tends to repeat itself regularly,» Ariel Alimi asserts, referring to other similar cases he is currently handling. According to the lawyer, an investigation «is evidently underway» while «the vehicle and the police officers have been identified.»
Ariel Alimi recounts his client’s analysis: «Police officers cannot behave like this» (…) «these officers should no longer be in the police force.»
Hugo has «no doubt» that the police vehicle seen in the video is the one he overtook a few minutes earlier around 5 p.m. near the Bercy quay. «I overtook a police car with its sirens on in traffic. We had been waiting behind it for a while, and then a gap opened up on the right lane,» recalls the young man.
After «waiting to see» if the vehicle would «let him pass as is often the case even with police cars on duty,» the motorcyclist proceeded. However, the car «merged at the same time,» forcing Hugo to «maneuver around» the police vehicle.
The young man believes the incident was a simple «road misunderstanding.» He continues his journey for «1.5 kilometers» until he hears the sirens behind him. Hugo says he «moved over» before being hit by a police car as shown in the video. According to him, the police officer on the passenger side also intentionally pushed him with his arm, as seen in the footage.
«Even at 30 km/h, you can fall off a motorcycle with this kind of impact,» insists Hugo, who claims to have been saved only because after being destabilized, «the motorcycle hit the police vehicle and was realigned» after the impact.
When contacted, the Créteil prosecutor’s office has not yet responded to our requests.
