As the fourth week of hearings begins, the trial of Joël Le Scouarnec has allowed two victims to speak out. These two young women shared their experiences of suffering and their determination not to be defined by their abuser, the surgeon who raped them at the clinic in Vannes when they were children.
After testifying in court, Marion had a smile on her face. In front of the court and facing her abuser, she was surrounded by her devastated and angry parents. But this 40-year-old woman from Morbihan believes that now, «having told [her trauma story] once and for all, we can start to close that chapter.» She was 12 years old when she was raped by Joël Le Scouarnec while undergoing an appendectomy.

«This trial helps me understand the nightmare I was caught in, because I had no idea who he was, what family he came from, his sadistic, cruel side,» recalls the young woman. «I only knew what I had read in the press, but the first week of the trial showed that it was much worse than what I had read,» she points out, distancing herself from the pedocriminal who assaulted her.

Manon also came to testify in court, accompanied by her parents. With a clear voice and confident words, Manon recounted «scattered memories» of the appendectomy, talked about «the pain,» then the nightmares and the disrupted, chaotic adolescence. She summarized the operation as «a fire ravaging everything in its path,» branding her «with a hot iron,» leading to a suicide attempt in 2008. Since then, she has navigated her way. «I did the work with professionals,» psychologists.
And now? The young woman talks about the 299 victims, the «solidarity» that has formed, the messages of support exchanged. «We are an army to fight men like him, because with this infernal story that has befallen us […], we are fighting a battle larger than ourselves.«
Representing one of the young women, Lawyer Marie Grimaud also commends confronting «Mister Le Scouarnec» about «his lack of emotions.» Faced with his «very intellectual discourse on his actions,» the 39 civil parties’ lawyer asked him how he felt listening to one of his victims and that victim’s parents recount their suffering. «He had no words to speak of what he does not feel, he was struggling.» To the questioning lawyer, he gave «a look of anger,» because, she believes, he is trying to conceal this «total lack of empathy.»
The accused’s counsel acknowledges that his client often appears «cerebral.» According to Me Maxime Tessier, what is important is that he «does not just make announcements, he acts concretely, speaking for each of the victims and acknowledging much more than what was reproached to him,» numerous rapes, rather than sexual assaults. Son avocate, Me Marie Grimaud, a confronté l’accusé à son absence d’émotions, soulignant son discours intellectuel sur ses actes. Joël Le Scouarnec a eu du mal à exprimer ses sentiments face à ses victimes, démontrant une absence totale d’empathie.
Le conseil de l’accusé a reconnu que Joël Le Scouarnec pouvait être très cérébral, mais a souligné son action concrète en reconnaissant les nombreux viols commis. Le procès de Joël Le Scouarnec, condamné à 15 ans de réclusion criminelle pour viols et agressions sexuelles sur mineurs, se poursuit au palais de justice de Vannes. Plus de 300 victimes sont impliquées dans cette affaire d’une ampleur sans précédent.

Manon, également violée par Joël Le Scouarnec à l’âge de 11 ans, a affirmé qu’elle n’était plus sa victime mais qu’elle était elle-même. Elle a souligné que leur agresseur n’aurait pas la satisfaction de voir leur souffrance.
Les deux femmes ont évoqué devant la Cour les séquelles de leur agression, les cauchemars et les difficultés traversées. Elles ont également parlé de la solidarité entre les victimes et de leur combat commun contre des hommes comme Joël Le Scouarnec.
L’avocate des parties civiles s’est félicitée d’avoir confronté l’accusé à son manque d’empathie. Elle a souligné qu’il cherchait à dissimuler son absence totale d’empathie derrière un discours très intellectuel.
