Two police officers from the Bobigny court depot were placed in custody on Thursday, October 30 after a young woman reported being raped by these officers on the night of Tuesday, October 28 to Wednesday, announced the Bobigny prosecutor’s office.

The young woman was at the time of the reported incident «referred to the Bobigny prosecutor’s office for acts of parental neglect» concerning her child, said prosecutor Eric Mathais in a statement.

On Wednesday, the young woman «revealed that she had been raped twice during the night of October 28-29 by two officers from the Bobigny court depot,» the prosecutor added.

Mathais declined to provide further details, stating that «investigations are ongoing.»

The IGPN (General Inspectorate of the National Police) has been informed of the investigation opened for rape by persons abusing the authority conferred by their functions.

A source close to the case told AFP that the young woman is 26 years old. According to this source, the two officers in custody were «not police officers for long» and are aged 23 and 35.

According to a second source close to the case, the two officers voluntarily wrote an administrative report to present their versions of the events.

Paris Police Prefect Patrice Faure announced on Thursday that he had suspended the two officers placed in custody after a woman reported being raped by these officers on Tuesday to Wednesday night at the Bobigny court depot.

«Following this report, I immediately suspended the two officers assigned to the Bobigny judicial court depot after they were implicated in alleged rape of a person referred,» Faure wrote on X.

The Bobigny court is geographically competent but could be removed from the case, which would then be entrusted to another jurisdiction further away.

The Bobigny depot is the antechamber of one of the largest courts in France, the second largest after Paris. Located in the basement of the courthouse, it is known to be plagued with problems (organization, staff, obsolescence, etc.) but is set to benefit from the upcoming extension works of the courthouse, which includes the construction of a new depot.

In another department in the Paris region, Seine-et-Marne, a police officer is expected to stand trial in the first half of 2026 for raping a woman within a police station. The plaintiff is an Angolan woman, undocumented, who had reported being raped twice by a police officer in 2023 at the Pontault-Combault police station.

This case was revealed by the newspaper Libération in a series called #MeToo Police. According to the newspaper, the woman accusing the police officer of rape had gone to file a complaint for domestic violence.

L’IGPN a été informée de l’affaire et les policiers ont été suspendus. L’IGPN a été contactée et les policiers ont été suspendus.
