The cultural and sports festivities organized as part of «Paris en Seine» begin this weekend of June 21st. Here are the dates not to be missed to fully enjoy the capital this summer.
Throughout the summer, the city of Paris is launching a program of festive and sports activities from June 21st to September 21st. An initiative called «Paris en Seine» that follows on from the animations that blossomed in the capital for the Olympics last year.
A rhythmic opening on June 21st
The starting signal for Paris en Seine will be given on the summer solstice. On June 21st, the City Hall will be open to the public, where they will discover an exhibition on «the commitment of cities since COP21.»
The Olympic flame will make its grand return. Every evening for the next three summers, from June 21st to September 21st, this legacy of the Olympic Games will rise in the sky. Located in the Tuileries garden, it will be accessible to the public all day for free.
All traces of work on the square in front of the city hall will also disappear on this day to make way for the sports activities planned throughout the summer (Beach volleyball court, festival, Paris Plage…)
Fnac Live Paris returns on July 2nd
For its 13th edition, the Fnac Live Paris festival is back on the square in front of the City Hall.
Without imposing a limit on the number of spectators, the city aims to do as well as last year. The festival had gathered 80,000 festival-goers over three days in 2024.
A total of thirty free concerts are scheduled from Wednesday, July 2nd to Friday, July 4th. Eddy de Pretto, Olivia Ruiz, and the Toulouse rapper Zinée will be part of the lineup.
Three new swimming areas from July 5th
After 100 years of prohibition, the Seine becomes an authorized swimming area again. From July 5th to August 31st, three spaces will open to the public: Bras Marie (1st arrondissement), Quai de Bercy (12th arrondissement), and Bras de Grenelle (15th arrondissement).
The pools will be freely accessible every day. Various services will be available to swimmers (solarium, changing rooms, showers, toilets, and kayaking) at the edge of the river. Apart from the Seine, the Bassin de la Villette and the Canal-Saint-Martin will also offer swimming areas as part of Paris Plage.
The 25th anniversary of the tropical carnival on July 6th
This year’s procession will be draped in the colors of Brazil in relation to the chosen theme «Amazonia.» From the Champs Elysées to Avenue Winston Churchill, the carnival will pay tribute «to the territories, peoples, and culture» of the country. The best troupe will receive a 5,000 euro prize.
For the record, the Mayor of Paris, Anne Hidalgo, cut the ribbon to inaugurate the first edition of this festival in 2002.
A celebration of the Olympic Games on July 26th
Exactly one year after the opening ceremony of the Olympic Games, it’s time to celebrate. A descent of the Seine in a kayak and paddle is planned on July 26th. Nautical and land activities will punctuate the banks along a route connecting the three new swimming areas.
In the evening, the meeting point is on Place du Châtelet, which will host a giant karaoke followed by a DJ set. As for heritage, the golden statues of the pioneering women of the opening ceremony will be permanently installed on Rue de la Chapelle.
