A tribute to Lizabete, the 23-year-old woman shot dead in front of her baby in the middle of the street in Nice on Wednesday evening, brought together hundreds of people at the Nice City Hall on Friday, in pain and dignity.
The main reception hall of the Nice City Hall was full on Friday, January 23 at noon, to pay tribute to Lizabete, who was murdered on Wednesday in the middle of the street on Avenue Henri-Matisse by the ex-partner of her mother’s husband.
Family, friends, as well as many elected officials of all stripes – who have decided to suspend the electoral campaign for the municipal elections for three days – and dozens of anonymous residents of Nice gathered in silence, communing in memory of the 23-year-old young mother, who was a victim of a true execution by gunfire.
The assembly, composed of several hundred people, observed a minute of silence. Then a moving lamentation was heard in the room, which remained silent. For long minutes, this melodic lament, accompanied by tears, emotionally moved the audience.

«It is total incomprehension in our community. No one deserves to have an end like this,» testifies Maria Ramos, president of the Racines du Cap Vert association in Nice, who knew Lisabete when she was in the same college as her son ten years ago.
Maria, who was also present, was very close to Lizabete since her birth. «It was as if she was part of my family, our mothers were very good friends,» confides this emotionally moved Niçoise of Cape Verdean origin.
I knew Lisa as a baby, we were the ones who took care of her when she was very young, and every time her mother, who had health problems, went to the hospital. We don’t have a blood connection but it’s as if she was part of my family.

Facing the audience, the Mayor of Nice delivered a short speech. «Lizabete, we want to bow to you, to tell you that we are devastated. This tragedy was avoidable, he [the assassin] struck, harassed, terrorized,» this family, emphasized Christian Estrosi.
The main suspect, the alleged shooter, Octaviano M. V., the ex-partner of Lizabete’s mother’s husband, had shown violence. He had been placed in custody last week for aggravated violence, and was under judicial supervision prohibiting him from contacting his ex-partner and from appearing at her home.
This Friday, this 45-year-old man, an employee of the city of Nice, is still actively sought. He may have left France.

Cependant, ce vendredi, cet homme de 45 ans, employé de la ville de Nice, est introuvable et pourrait avoir quitté la France. Deux mandats d’arrêt ont été émis pour lui, l’un national et l’autre européen, pour «meurtre avec préméditation».
La garde à vue du propriétaire du scooter utilisé par le tueur pour commettre l’acte a été levée jeudi. Aucune charge n’a été retenue contre cet homme de 49 ans, qui s’était rendu spontanément au commissariat. L’enquête est en cours, avec le procureur de Nice ayant ouvert une information judiciaire pour «meurtre avec préméditation».
Un hommage à Lizabete, la jeune femme de 23 ans tuée devant son bébé à Nice, a attiré des centaines de personnes à la mairie de Nice. L’assemblée, composée de membres de la famille, d’amis, d’élus et de citoyens, a observé une minute de silence et exprimé sa douleur pour la jeune maman assassinée de manière brutale en pleine rue.
Maria Ramos, présidente de l’association Racines du Cap Vert à Nice, a témoigné de l’incompréhension et de la tristesse ressenties dans la communauté face à cet acte de violence choquant. Elle a partagé des souvenirs de Lizabete, soulignant que personne ne mérite un tel destin tragique.
