Comfortably seated in his armchair, Alain Chamfort gives a knowing smile. Facing Jean-Noël Mirande, he elegantly welcomes his sixty-year career. Sixty years of lending his voice to the stories of others, infusing melodies into the emotions of an era, composing songs that have become timeless for some, hits for others: Le temps qui court, Manureva, Bambou… Refrains that have crossed generations and marked moments in life: «A song is a bit like a perfume,» he confides with the softness that characterizes him when he talks about the stage. «As soon as you discover it, it echoes moments of your life, the memory associated with it comes back. When I do a concert, all eras are represented and people follow their own path by following the concert.»

Chamfort, a stage name that sounds like a ticket to fame, chosen by Claude François himself when he joined his label. Born in 1949 under the name Alain Le Govic, he made a place for himself in the music industry with his unique voice and natural charisma that captivated the public. Quickly thrust into the spotlight, he embodied the image of the singer adored by young girls. But behind this success, a conflict grew, between glamour and a quest for authenticity. He broke free and forged his own path, away from the beaten tracks, to build a career in his own image: sincere and timeless: «I wanted to escape from something that, nevertheless, brought me a lot. It was success, discovery, it was new for me to have a singer’s life in Claude François’s environment but at the same time, I had a feeling of disconnect between my nature and this carefree, lightness that isn’t me. I am made up of more than that.»

With L’Impermanence, his sixteenth album, Alain Chamfort explores the thread of time with the delicacy that characterizes him. As a preamble, an evocative title: La Grâce. A piece that is airy, almost suspended, reflecting the artist’s universe, with a minimalist music video and a serene look at his long career. The lyrics, with touching simplicity, complete this picture: «Have I been able to touch people as much as those who touched me? Have I, without seeking it, spoken of them by speaking of myself?«

Surrounding Alain Chamfort, a constellation of artists, paying tribute to this life dedicated to music: Véronique Sanson, Laurent Voulzu, Julien Clerc, Francis Cabrel, Etienne Daho, Juliette Armanet, Benjamin Biolay, Jeanne Cherhal, Jean-Louis Aubert, Bertrand Belin, Dominique A., Vincent Delerm… All gathered to celebrate a work without fanfare. Sixty years of career, no dusk on the horizon, because this album is neither a final point nor a farewell, just the breath of an artist who always prefers discretion to noise, the essential to artifice, and grace to the ephemeral.

Comfortably seated in his armchair, Alain Chamfort smiles knowingly. Facing Jean-Noël Mirande, he elegantly welcomes his sixty-year career with modesty. Sixty years of lending his voice to the stories of others, infusing melodies with the emotions of an era, composing songs that have become timeless for some, hits for others: «Le temps qui court, Manureva, Bambou»… Refrains that have crossed generations and marked moments in life: «A song is a bit like a perfume,» he confides with the same gentleness that characterizes him when talking about the stage. «As soon as you discover it, it echoes moments of your life, the memory associated with it comes back into place.» During my singing tour, all eras are included and people follow their own path while attending the concert.
