However, he may have possibly revised his script since then. Zendaya, the American actress, plays Rue Bennett in the series «Euphoria» by Sam Levinson. This series, which started in June 2019 on Max and OCS in France, delves into the chaotic daily lives of a group of contemporary teenagers dealing with drugs, sex, screens, toxic relationships, and identity quests in a stifling fictional American town.
After fans patiently waited for three years, the announcement in mid-February of a confirmed third season of «Euphoria» set for next year reignited anticipation. HBO discreetly stated on their social media platforms on February 10th, «The season 3 of ‘Euphoria’ is in production.» Various sources have since confirmed that filming has indeed begun.
The Chief Streaming Officer at Warner Bros. Discovery, JB Perrette, further specified that the third season of HBO’s groundbreaking series would air in 2026, as reported by Rolling Stone. In 2022, the second season of «Euphoria» became the second most-watched series on HBO after «Games of Thrones,» with over 16 million viewers.
Despite criticisms of the hypersexualization of female characters and the glamorization of drug use in «Euphoria,» the characters, storyline, acting direction, and cinematography have all been remarkable and widely praised. The series has served as a golden opportunity for the careers of almost all the main actors, who have become major stars, most of them becoming brand ambassadors seen on the covers of numerous magazines.
Zendaya, in the central role of Rue Bennett, a high school student struggling with her addictions, has won two Emmy Awards for Best Actress in a Drama Series (in 2020 and 2021) and a Golden Globe (2023) for her role. She has since been busy with various projects, appearing alongside Timothée Chalamet in «Dune» (1 and 2), as well as in the «Spider-Man» franchise and starring in Luca Guadagnino’s «Challengers» (2023). Other breakout stars from the series include Jacob Elordi, who portrayed Elvis Presley in Sofia Coppola’s «Priscilla,» and has worked with directors such as Paul Schrader and Guillermo del Toro.
The majority of the cast is returning for the third season, except for the late Angus Cloud (Fez), who passed away in July 2023 from an accidental overdose at the age of 25, and Barbie Ferreira (Kat), who left in 2022 due to dissatisfaction with her character’s screen time. New faces will also be joining the series, with the highly anticipated addition of Spanish singer Rosalia announced on February 14th. Another prominent addition is Sharon Stone, who expressed excitement to work with the talented team, praising the genius of Sam Levinson.
The upcoming season will see the characters from the second season having grown up, with HBO indicating that approximately five years will have passed between the end of season 2 and the beginning of season 3, as they transition from high school to young adulthood. The tone of season 3 is expected to be darker, resembling a film noir, exploring what it means to have principles in a corrupt world through Rue’s character.
As fans eagerly await the return of «Euphoria,» the anticipation for the third season continues to build as production progresses towards the highly anticipated release in 2026.
